Model Factories are being established in target provinces under the coordination of the Ministry of Industry and Technology of the Republic of Turkey, within the scope of the Public Investment Project called "SME Productivity Training Center Project," with the aim of "providing training and consultancy to manufacturing SMEs primarily in the fields of lean transformation (aimed at increasing operational efficiency) and digital transformation (aimed at implementing Industry 4.0 principles)." The Ministry is carrying out this project based on a Presidential Decree.

The process of establishing and expanding Model Factories in Turkey is being carried out within the scope of technical cooperation with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). The Gaziantep Model Factory, which is part of the project aiming to establish an Applied SME Competence Center (Model Factory) in Turkey, was implemented in cooperation with the Gaziantep Chamber of Industry (GSO) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).

The Gaziantep Model Factory aims to transfer the Lean Manufacturing System to SMEs and large-scale firms in Gaziantep and neighboring provinces, and to provide mentorship in these processes. In the Model Factory, which is based on Lean manufacturing processes, training and applications are provided with 22 fundamental Lean Manufacturing training modules. To convey the Lean Manufacturing philosophy to companies, a real product, the necessary machinery and equipment for its production, and production processes are available. Through theoretical and practical curricula based on these production processes, the factory enables decision-makers and leaders of businesses to experience and implement the three phases of the transformation required on the path to Industry 4.0, thus opening up horizons for them to initiate transformation in their own businesses.

The Gaziantep Model Factory has chosen digital market scales as its product. Three different production technologies are used in the production of the scales: plastic injection technology, machining technology, and sheet metal processing technology. Thus, the Gaziantep Model Factory is the most comprehensive Model Factory in Turkey. The Gaziantep Model Factory is the first point of contact for businesses in their improvement, development, and transformation processes.
