Tuncay Yıldırım, Chairman of the Gaziantep Chamber of Commerce and TOBB Board Member, the TOBB delegation met with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa and Syrian Minister of Economy and Industry Mohammad Nidal al-Shaar.

During the meetings with President al-Sharaa, discussions focused on enhancing economic relations between the two countries, rebuilding Syria, and contributing to the reconstruction of the trade and industrial infrastructure damaged by the war.

As part of the program, the delegation also attended a meeting hosted by the Syrian Ministry of Economy and Industry. The gathering brought together the Federation of Syrian Chambers of Commerce and Industry, ICC Syria, the Damascus Chamber of Commerce, the Damascus Chamber of Industry, the Rural Damascus Chamber of Commerce, the Homs Chamber of Industry, and representatives of the business community. The parties exchanged views on ways to further develop trade between Türkiye and Syria.

Speaking after the talks, TOBB President Hisarcıklıoğlu stated that the meetings addressed possible areas of economic cooperation between Türkiye and Syria, how Türkiye could support Syria’s reconstruction efforts, and opportunities to expand bilateral trade volume.

He also highlighted that Türkiye shared its experience in establishing and managing Organized Industrial Zones (OIZs), which have played a significant role in Türkiye’s industrialization. Hisarcıklıoğlu emphasized that Turkish companies could play a major role in Syria’s reconstruction, particularly in infrastructure, construction, energy, food, and logistics sectors.

Adil Sani Konukoğlu and M. Tuncay Yıldırım also stressed that with its production and trade capacity, Gaziantep stands out as a critical city in the process. They underlined that the Gaziantep business community is ready to support every constructive step toward ensuring economic stability in the region, advancing bilateral trade, and strengthening mutual ties. They also expressed their gratitude to Turkish Ambassador to Damascus, Burhan Köroğlu, for his kind hospitality and support.
